Guber was born in Philadelphia on November 20, 1920. He attended Central High School, where he met his future business partner Shelly Gross, when they were assigned to sit next to each other in alphabetical order.

He attended Temple University, where he majored in sociology, earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

He married three times. Edna Shanis was the bride in his first union. Zev and Carol were the couple’s two kids.

A 13-year marriage between Guber and Barbara Walters, who was working as a reporter for NBC at the time, began in December 1963. They adopted their daughter Jacqueline Dena Guber the same year she was born, in 1968.

He married Lois Wyse for the third time in 1982, and they remained together till his passing. Robert Wyse and Katherine Goldman are his stepkids. He has one journalist named Noah Shachtman among his eight grandchildren.

He then relocated to Los Angeles to work in the film industry. He relocated back to New York City in 1978 to work alongside his father in running the family business, Music Fair Productions, which includes the Valley Forge and Westbury Music Fairs.

Zev, who produced live theater, movies, and documentaries, was a consummate philosopher, adventurer, and martial artist. He traveled widely with his family and on the job.

He passed away July 16, 2022, and is survived by his wife and the three kids they had together.
