Johnny released his first studio album “Johnny Kemp” in 1986 which went on to become very successful in the market. The album included the single “Just Another Lover” which was co-written by Kashif and Johnny himself, and which became a minor hit in its own right, in America reaching #14 on Billboard’s Hot Black Singles chart. However, Johnny became much more popular with the release a year later of his second album entitled “Secrets Of Flying”. The songs from the album like “Dancin’ With Myself” and “Just Got Paid” were very popular and were even ranked in the top ten of Billboard’s Hot Black Singles chart.
Apart from his own albums, Johnny worked with several other famous artists in their projects. In 2007, he appeared alongside Keith Sweat and Teddy Riley in Keith’s DVD release entitled “Sweat Hotel Live”. Johnny Kemp also worked with other artists like Luther Vandross and Chic (band) during his career, and of course, being a part of all these musical projects also contributed considerably to Johnny’s riches.
Regarding his personal life, at the time of his demise, Johnny had been married to Deidre for several years, and they had two sons. He died accidentally on 16 April 2015 in Montego Bay, Jamaica, the police report stating that he was walking on rocks but lost his balance, hit his head, slipped into the water and drowned.
