It was an eggs-plosion.

A home chef put out a warning on TikTok urging people not to heat up hard-boiled eggs in a microwave — and showed the messy aftermath if you do.

“This is a PSA to never microwave your hard-boiled eggs,” user @cristinamilicua said in the clip that has garnered over 19.5 million views in four days.

The TikTok begins with a not-so-egg-cited Cristina covered in egg bits before demonstrating her failed food hack.

She shows the two microwaved eggs in question sitting on a paper towel, one of which had completely exploded.

However, she was in for quite a surprise when she peeled open the other, which popped open like a champagne bottle right in her face.

The Post has reached out to the TikToker for comment.

There’s a scientific reason for the mess, though, according to The Los Angeles Times, but it’s a “phenomenon” that has “baffled scientists.”

While eggs can be hard-boiled in the microwave, they explode when reheated due to multiple small pockets of “superheated water” which “spontaneously boil” and explode when opened.

In a follow-up video, Cristina revealed that she boils her eggs in bulk for the week, and since she doesn’t like to eat them cold, she typically heats them up in the microwave.

“I had been warming them up all week, and had no problem at all, until Friday, when they blew up on me,” she said.

She also added that she had microwaved the egg for one minute — which she doesn’t recommend — since they came straight out of the fridge.

In the comments section of the original video, some viewers were just as shocked as Cristina to find out that you can’t microwave a hard-boiled egg.

“I’m so surprised this is something I’ve never done this seems like such a normal thing to do,” one viewer commented.

Cristina admitted that this wasn’t the first time she had done this. TikTok/cristinamilicua

Another agreed, typing, “I feel like I just learned very important information.”

Others warned that they had scorched their lips by doing this very thing.

“I burned my lips with microwaved hard-boiled eggs!” someone wrote. “That was a horrifying experience.”

One user claimed, “Yeah I did that a few years ago but I bit into it and it burned my lip open.”

This isn’t the first time that someone has had a horrible run-in with a boiled egg-splosion.

A UK man was left with full-body burns after trying to poach eggs in the microwave.

And in 2019, YouTuber Bethany Rosser boiled her eggs in the microwave for six minutes, which ended in her face peeling off as they exploded all over her.

It affected one of her eyes, and she was rushed to a burn unit at a hospital in England.

“I’m not sure if I will be able to see out of that eye when the swelling goes down,” she said at the time. “I’ve been advised the burns shouldn’t scar, but that I should expect discoloration.”
