Victoria was raised in a devout Christian home with no television. Her father was a Baptist deacon and a gymnastic coach so she practised gymnastics from childhood to adolescence. She went to the private Dade Christian School, and later enrolled the Florida Bible College. However, after attending for a year, Jackson decided to leave after receiving a gymnastics scholarship to Furman University, which is where she first discovered and developed her interest in drama. In 1979 she was obliged to leave Furman due to lack of finances, and transferred to Auburn University where she participated in an audition and met Johnny Crawford who gave her a place in his nightclub, and sent her to Hollywood. In order to make a living, Victoria worked various temporary jobs before a talent scout for Johnny Carson saw her stand-up comedy act, and put her on the Tonight Show; she appeared on this show more than 20 times, and performed her future signature act: doing a handstand while reciting poetry. In 1985 she appeared in the ’’Half Nelson“ series, in a supporting role, and a year later, Victoria joined ’’Saturday Night Live“ in its 12th season, and became widely recognized for her’’Weekend Update“ appearances next to Dennis Miller. She also impersonated numerous celebrities such as Calamity Jane, Cyndi Lauper, La Toya Jackson, Susan Olsen and many others.

In addition to her successful career as a comedian, Jackson has played in several films as well, including’’Baby Boom“(1987) co-starring with Diane Keaton,’’Family Business“ (1989) with Sean Connery, ’’The Couch Trip“ (1988) and ’’I Love You to Death“ (1990), and had leading roles in ’’Casual Sex?“(1988) and ’’UHF“(1989). After leaving ’’Saturday Night Live“ in 1992, she appeared in several TV series such as ’’Good Cop Bad Cop“, ’’The X-Files“, ’’The Rain King“ and ’’Strip Mall“. From 2003 to 2004 she appeared regularly in the Nickelodeon show ’’Romeo!“, and ’’Celebrity Fit Club“ a year later. Since 2006 Victoria has continued performing stand up shows, frequently alongside other ex-SNL players. Some of her latest activities include roles in an independent romantic comedy film ’’The Matchbreaker“(2016), drama film ’’Andy’s Rainbow“(2016) and comedies ’’Saving Faith“(2017) and ’’Heaven Bound“(2017).

When it comes to her private life, Jackson reunited with Paul Wessel, her highschool sweetheart, in 1991 and the two married. They have two daughters and reside in Nashville. Victoria is also an active participant in the Tea Party movement, and is known as an outspoken critic of former US President Barack Obama.
